About the Opportunity
EliteCareers is partnering to engage experienced COBOL Developers to contribute their domain expertise to a high-impact tech initiative. In this remote contract role, you will apply your deep legacy systems knowledge to help train next-generation Artificial Intelligence (AI) models. Your work will directly shape how machine learning systems reason, analyze, and interpret legacy code bases.
No prior AI or Machine Learning experience is required—your deep technical understanding of COBOL is what drives success.
Key Responsibilities & Scope of Work
Codebase Analysis: Analyze, interpret, and provide structured guidance on legacy COBOL codebases to generate high-value AI training data.
Technical Documentation: Draft clear, precise documentation detailing COBOL logic, system workflows, and complex business rules for machine learning input.
Code Evaluation: Review sample code, pseudo-code, and legacy project scenarios to provide expert feedback, pinpointing potential edge cases and logic ambiguities.
Dataset Annotation: Review and annotate COBOL scripts to assist in building robust, error-free machine learning datasets.
Test Case Design: Help outline comprehensive test cases and real-world scenario outlines representing modern enterprise COBOL applications.
Technical Quality Control: Maintain absolute technical accuracy and completeness in all submitted materials to ensure optimal AI learning outcomes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Communicate effectively with project coordinators and fellow mainframe technical experts in an asynchronous remote environment.
Qualifications & Key Requirements
COBOL Mastery: Proven, hands-on experience and deep proficiency in COBOL development across enterprise business environments.
Legacy Systems Expertise: Strong analytical capability to decode complex legacy code and clearly articulate core functions.
Technical Writing: Exceptional written communication skills with a proven track record of creating precise, readable technical documentation.
Mainframe Experience: Familiarity with traditional mainframe environments, tools, and workflows.
Autonomous Execution: Demonstrated ability to manage project deliverables, hit milestones, and work independently in a remote contract setting.
Modernization Background (Bonus): Prior experience with large-scale mainframe migration, integration, or legacy system modernization is a strong plus.
